DREAM: The hilly dark water…the waves…riding in a boat in the middle of a deep ocean. My companions are Ed Harris and a small crew of people, one of them Mark Padgett. Something bad is happening in the distance…miles from our sea craft. We have a plan. Ed Harris suits up in scuba gear and arms himself…I’m coaxed into tagging along on his mission. We have to swim, the two of us, for a bout 5 miles. I’m reluctant to join but have no choice. One of the crewmen offers a transparent block device that serves as a form of goggles by holding my eyeglasses in place. I have to fold them up and secure it into the block. It doesn’t seem like this will be an efficient instrument, but I put them on and a peephole provides crystal clear vision.

I turn to Mark and leave him my purple book bag because I can’t take it with me, “Mark, I want you to keep this safe. There’s a journal in here that contains up to 10 years of my life. If something happens to me I trust you to do something special with it…”

Waking up just after 11:30 a.m.

Peach.

All day shift at China Wok.

Egg and Cheese Burrito from Sonic. Orange Juice.

A familiar sweet black lady walks into the restaurant…

Her: “I remember you from somewhere…the newspapers?”

Me: “Yep. That’s me. I quit that job…”

She works down at the Sonoco gas station on VB Blvd. I used to see her all the time on the paper route. Her personality is so nice and warm…

Cloudy days…rainy days…

Snapping the peasssssss…

Dinner rush—almost everybody calls in at once…orders stacked to the heavens…

Over in Chase Pointe amidst the hustle and bustle I spot a rainbow in the sky…this makes it all worth the while.

Long days need long breaths.

Ice Cream Cone from Dairy Queen—overpriced.

Done.

Back home…James is walking down the sidewalk just as I arrive…

Him and Anthony keep pulling up 90’s songs on the computer while I make dinner in the kitchen (where I feel right). Kelly Suddeth is here indulging in the fruits of my labor with me…

Dinner: Beer Glazed Black Beans with Eggplant, Peppers, Tomatoes, Onions, and Brown Rice.

Me (to Anthony): “I think you and I have the same effect on women.”

Anthony: “You don’t need a mirror to know how you look!”

Kmart adventures with Darren, Anthony, and Lauren—on a mission for cereal and other things. The air is stained with a smoky smell caused from the fires in the dismal swamp…

Anthony: “I love being surrounded with people that I love…I’ve never had that before.”

Going through some old books—skimming folded pages and underlines…

Sleep 3:30 a.m.
