Darren Breaks Down (Jan 4 2014)[i]

Waking up at 11 a.m.

Strawberry Honey Bunches of Oats with Almond Milk. Clementine.

All day shift at China Wok.

Veggie and Hummus Wrap. Popped Potato Chips. Honey Black Tea.

It's just another day on the job – prepping the bags – washing the windows – delivering order after order – playing games with the girls.

Maple Leaf Cookies.

Banana.

Off work and back home.

Fried Shrimp with Garlic Sauce, Broccoli, Carrots, Onions, and Rice.

Watching Blood (2012).

Later I come downstairs to do the dishes. There's Darren sitting shirtless at the table looking forlorn and staring blankly at nothing – the stereo is blaring bluegrass and O Brother Where Art Thou-type jams – chugging down his favorite bottom-shelf vodka, Odessa. His whole aura screams breakdown. It almost feels like I'm going through one of those walkthroughs at a carnival or something and this is the room where we see the depressed drunkard. I don't think I've ever seen him this serious and melancholy before. I remember him telling Ana and I last night something about losing the love of his life. I refuse to say anything cause I don't think any words would help his situation. He's too deep into it at this point. I shut up and do my thing in the kitchen then retreat upstairs. While preparing for a shower I hear Sasha attempt to intervene with encouragement but then a string of loud bangs occur. He overturned the table, the fruit bowl spilt, broken glass, and cranberry cake smashed on the floor. After showering I take a peak into the dining room and find him lying on the floor using the broken seat cushion as a pillow. Rest in peace, friend.

Sleep 3 a.m.
