Kurva Choir at The Shaq (March 10 2013)[i]

11:30 a.m. waking up. Daylight Savings is a very sneaky bastard. He’s got to be the best prankster ever.

Banana. Orange Juice.

All day shift at China Wok.

Mesquite Almonds. Five Guys French Fries with Ketchup. Honey Green Tea.

It’s a very slow day at the Wok.

Aysena sent me a silly video of her dancing in her underwear.

Oh it’s the cutest thing I’ve seen all day.

Things pick up in the evening, but not too much.

I convince my boss to let me off work right at 10 p.m. so I can rush over to the show tonight. Scarfing down Hot and Sour Soup with Broccoli and Rice on the way there. I arrive just in time to get up on stage to play bass in Josiah’s band, Bamm Bamm. It’s a small but lively crowd filled with the usual friendly faces. After the rock n roll set everyone situates themselves on the cold concrete floor to listen to Kurva Choir, chamber music of an experimental interpretive kind consisting of an upright bass and cello. I stretch my body out and let the vibrant earthy sounds wash away everything.

Then, it’s Pinball Locomotive’s turn to bring the fire and deliver the LIVE. All the bodies bouncing and grooving just like characters from Charlie Brown and The Peanut Gang.

As Wolf dancer recounts...
“I have been to a lot of shows over time but tonight was a new and amazing experience. Not just the music, which was fantastic, but the people in attendance. The same people popping to hip hop and slamming to metal. Then at midnight, as one, sitting down on a cold concrete floor in winter in a total hush listening to chamber music played on stringed instruments. Finally dancing out to rock until two AM just like the E Street Band was playing.”

Settling back in at home.

Cheerios with Brown Sugar.

Sleep 4 a.m.
