Dave Heads (Mar 4 2013)[i]

Waking up around 1:30 p.m.

Clementines. Coffee with Honey and Milk.

Extensive research, networking, and planning for my trip to Russia – organizing a few shows.

Egg Sandwich with Mayonnaise and Tomato. Salt n Vinegar Chips. Lemon Water. Pluot.

More researching and planning.

I’ve got a gig tonight at Chicho’s playing with Mike Gombas. A few friends that I invited came out. Sitting down at the table with James, Christine, Sasha, Kevin, and Will. I raise my Bud Light bottle and offer a toast, “Here’s to Monday nights!” Mike serenades us with a collection of originals and covers – his voice so fluid and dreamy. Then it’s my turn to take the stage. Any time I perform I’m aware of this sense of timidness that I have to conquer while playing the things I’ve practiced before alone. When taking those songs that I’ve played alone so many times and then playing them in front of people it changes the presentation. It’s not just nervousness but a realization that I need to portray the passion of each song to the best of my ability. I feel confident despite. And I think the more and more shows I play the more control I have.

...

Afterwards, enjoying two $1 slices of Cheese Pizza.

...

After hearing Kevin play violin on a song of mine some Dave Head at the bar invites him on stage to do a few Dave Matthews covers. Kevin of course is thrilled.

After party at Rick’s Café, the usual, with James, Will, Elliott, Sasha, Vince, and JP. General camaraderie. Someone brings up the topic of Kevin and why he gets made fun of so much.

Me: “Here’s the thing about Kevin. I mean he’s really clumsy. And a lot of times the reason he is that way is because people egg him on – because everyone expects him to be a comedian and do stupid stuff. I feel like if nobody made fun of him or he lived with different people he wouldn’t act that way. It’s really us that creates Kevin. We create him. We’re molding him to how we want him to be.”

[Ha-ha-ha]

Me: “He’s still a work in progress I will say. We’re not finished with him yet.”

Back home.
Researching.

Sleep 5 a.m.
